Gift-Giving on a Budget

As May has come and gone we are now fully in the wedding and graduation seasons. June, August, September and October are the most popular months for weddings according to www.theknot.com and most graduations also happen in May or June. Of course these occasions call for gifts, which can start to add up. Here are some suggestions for gifts that will still please your recipient and your wallet. Here are a few ideas:

1) Convenience Gift Basket:

Most newlyweds, college freshmen, college graduate, etc. may not have ideas of what they will need to be comfortable in their new living spaces and will quickly forget the small things that are needed. This would be a fun, but very practical, gift. The gift basket can include things that may be necessary to make other gifts function or items that make life easier. Some good options are:

  • Batteries
  • A smoke/carbon monoxide detector
  • A step stool
  • Shower curtain liners/hooks
  • Sponges
  • Light Bulbs
  • Flashlights
  • A toolkit
  • First Aid Kit
  • Laundry detergent

3) “The write thing to do”:

Brides will love being able to send out personalized stationary with their newly acquired name. While this may sound like any extravagant gift sites such as Zazzle.com or Vistaprint.com can offer beautiful options that don’t break the bank. Along this line, you could also use these services to order personalized business cards for graduates who will be out looking for jobs. It makes a great first impression on any prospective employer.

4) Netflix for All

A great gift for anyone of your gift list this season is a Netflix subscription. You can purchase a Netflix Gift Card at many retail locations, and apply the gift card to a new or existing Netflix account. This is a wonderful little way to give a “luxury” to those who may not be able to order this service themselves, or since the giftcard doesn’t expire, they can save the card if they need to put their account on hold to save a few extra dollars one month.

These are just some ideas that can be utilized to make a simple gesture go a long way! There are also some great sites that provide unique, personalized, and fun gifts for everyone on your list, and maybe even something special for you too! Here are a few of my favorites:
